Bodybuilding Associations and Competitions in India

Bodybuilding is a very different sport in india. Unlike all other sports which has one single association or federation for the nation (Example BCCI for cricket), thats not the case for bodybuilding. There are many different bodybuilding associations in India and most of them claim to be the official and recognised by government of India. This not only creates confusion among the people but is also doing lots of damage to the sport of bodybuilding.

IBBFF is the biggest and oldest bodybuilding association in India. This year (2017) IBBFF will be conducting its 57th Mr India competition in Gujarat. This means that there have been 56 successful Mr India event organised by IBBFF.  IBBFF is associated with IFBB with the number one bodybuilding association in the world.

IBBFF is the official and the only organization that gives opportunity for the athletes to compete at the International events such as Arnold Classic and Mr Olympia Amateur. This provides athletes an chance to perform at such great level and win pro card for themselves and make the country proud.

In 2017, IBBFF had taken the historic step of getting Mr Olympia Amateur to India. This will be the first time in history of Indian Bodybuilding that such a mega event is organised in India. This is a great opportunity for indian athletes to compete in Mr Olympia Amateur in India and win a pro card. All this had happened due to great effort by the General Secretary Mr Sanjay More.

IBBF is one of the biggest bodybuilding association in India. Some of the top athletes from India are part of this association. They organise a large number of events all across the country. IBBF has many state level associations that organises events at state level. Major Events of IBBF are Mr India, Svayambhu Shree, Saraighat Shree, Maharashtra Shree, Mumbai Shree etc.

The parent organization of IBBF is WBPF. All the top athletes ( after trail ) can also compete and Mr Asia and Mr World organised by WBPF. India’s performance at the international level has been good.

WABBA is a world Amateur Bodybuilders Association which has its head office in italy. It organises some world level competitions and is looking to enter india. Mr Pavan Shetty of India has participated in the competition and won the overall title in 2015

IBFF is another small organization at world level which is trying to have a presence in india. Only few country of world are part of this association and india has joined recently. Mr Wasim Khan and also the president of IBFF india wing.  This is the only association that lets the athlete who competes in the event also be its president. Other associations sees it as a violation.

MuscleMania is a very big international organization that organizes Mens Physique and Fitness Model events worldwide. It also had its india wing that organizes Muscle Mania India competition. It must be noted that it does not have a bodybuilding competition.
